Maddie Grace Plays Guitar On “Payphone” by Maroon 5

Here’s a video that we recorded recently of Maddie’s version of “Payphone” by Maroon 5. Maddie began playing guitar about a year ago and has certainly come a long way! This version of “Payphone” by Maroon 5 was actually arranged by Maddie herself! She taught herself this song, arranged it to suit her voice and has been playing it for several weeks now. I’m very proud of her initiative and I’m sure she’ll keep progressing on guitar nicely! I hope you enjoy her version of “Payphone” by Maroon 5.

Maddie Grace sings “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” by Bob Dylan

We recently recorded Maddie Grace singing “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go”, originally written by Bob Dylan. This is Miley Cyrus’s version of the song. Maddie fell in love with it, showed it to me and we put it together. I think Maddie does an excellent job with the song and we both love playing it! I hope you enjoy watching Maddie’s rendition of this Bob Dylan classic. If you aren’t doing anything on Saturday, June 2, 2012 – come watch Maddie sing this song live (along with many, many more songs) at the Acoustic Cafe in Ringgold, Georgia. We love playing there and will play a good three hour show starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. We’d love to see you there!

Maddie Grace sings “More Like Her” by Miranda Lambert

O.K. I’m addicted to hearing Maddie Grace’s version of “More Like Her” by Miranda Lambert. Time to share it with everyone! I’ve got quite a backlog of Maddie Grace videos that I’ll be mixing down and posting over the next few weeks. Maddie has been busy with school and I’ve been busy with work – haven’t had time for the fun stuff. We actually recorded this video back in August, but never got around to mixing it for Youtube. I hope you enjoy Maddie singing Miranda Lambert’s “More Like Her” as much as I do.

Maddie Grace Sings “Marry Me” by Train

We recently uploaded a new video of Maddie Grace singing the Train cover song “Marry Me”. Maddie sang this song at a wedding in Lynchburg, Tennessee last weekend. Maddie and I played the song on a hilltop in Lynchburg overlooking the most beautiful farmland and rolling hills. The bride entered the ceremony on horseback as we played this song and it really was awesome. We want to congratulate the bride and groom, Leah and Ryan Dickert, we also want to thank them for giving us the opportunity to play in their wedding.

Taylor Swift New Songs – “Mean” – Maddie Grace

One of Maddie’s favorite Taylor Swift new songs is “Mean”. There have been many requests over the past several months to cover one of the songs from the Taylor Swift song list. This one is on her new album, “Speak Now”. Maddie’s dad is singing the backing vocals and playing guitar. Maddie asked everyone on her facebook fan page to choose between Taylor Swift’s “Mean” and Sugarland’s “Stuck Like Glue”. Maddie’s dad likes all Taylor Swift songs and he was the tie breaking vote. We want to wish everyone a happy new year and we hope you like Maddie’s version of “Mean” by Taylor Swift.

If I Die Young – The Band Perry – Maddie Grace

Maddie Grace’s latest video on YouTube is “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry. Maddie and I recorded this video two days ago and just got in uploaded on YouTube! This is one of Maddie’s favorite songs. She’s been learning to play the guitar and has been playing this song non-stop! She’s doing a very good job with it, but wasn’t quite comfortable enough to play it on the video. We’re hoping she’ll be able to play on a video soon! Anyway, we hope you like Maddie’s version of this song, enjoy! We’ll be putting the MP3 up in a few days too.

Maddie Grace’s Version of “Naturally” (Selena Gomez)

This is an acoustic version of the Selena Gomez song “Naturally”. We heard this song on the radio several weeks ago and thought: “That would make a good country song”. We sat down and put together this acoustic version of the song (not quite country – but we like it). I’m singing backing vocals and playing the guitar. This is the first of two videos that we recorded on our neighbor’s deck on the Tennessee river. We’ll post the other one later this week. Thanks to Gene and Christy for letting us use their deck!

Maddie sang this song in round 2 of the Chattamoms.com Kidz Talent Search. She performed Sugaland’s “It Happens” this past Tuesday evening for round 3 of the contest. Voting for round 3 started at 12:00pm today and ends at 12:00pm tommorrow. You have to pay to vote, but all proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Thanks for your help!

“You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” by Darrell Scott

Maddie Grace takes on a request from her grandfather to perform the Patty Loveless rendition of the Darrell Scott song “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”.  This song was originally written by Darrell Scott and was later performed by Patty Loveless.  Maddie’s version of the song is based on Patty Loveless’ version.  This song is one of the greatest country songs ever written.  The haunting lyrics of this song bring to life the plight of a Kentucky coal miner who toils in the mine to support his family and eventually looses his life doing so.  We were immediately struck by this song from the moment we heard it, but as with any song, it takes learning and playing it many times before an artist can truly “bring it to life”.  I think Maddie did a great job and was able to communicate the feeling that the lyrics evoke.  Let us know what you think about her performance.

Maddie’s First Recording Studio Experience

This video was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee last weekend. Maddie recorded the vocal in the personal studio of Jason Halbert. Mr Halbert is the musical director and keyboardist for Kelly Clarkson. Maddie’s vocal coach, Diane Sheets, arranged this session and is in the video. Mr. Halbert and Ms. Sheets selected Sheryl Crow’s “Light In Your Eyes” for Maddie to sing. They wanted her to make the song her own and purposely gave her very little time to prepare (that’s why Diane is holding the lyrics for Maddie). Maddie had so much fun in the session and we were very thankful for the opportunity.
